GABA and Valerian and Melatonin Combo for Sleep

gaba to help with sleepGABA is used to relax the body. It works by increasing the concentration of GABA in the body, enhancing response on neuronal tissues and reducing the release of mono-amine neurotransmitters; it reduces axon excitability.

Valerian is a perennial flowering plant native to Europe; it seems to have been used since ancient times but it gained popularity in the 17th century to deal with stress and headaches. To this day it still is used for those purposes. It seems that it also increases the amount of GABA in the brain.

Melatonin, on the other hand, doesn’t have much to do with GABA. It tells the body when its time to go to sleep; however, as people grow older, Melatonin’s levels lower and so do its benefits, thus making it necessary to complement it with Melatonin supplements.

So, GABA and Valerian work within the brain, relaxing the brain and preventing any excitability that would make it impossible to fall asleep or to stay that way. Melatonin, like other sleep aid supplements, works on the body, inducing a feeling of drowsiness which will put you to sleep.
